East Providence, R.I. — The East Providence City Council held a budget workshop Tuesday night on Mayor Roberto DaSilva’s proposed fiscal year 2027 budget, hearing presentations from the administration, the school department, public works, police and fire, according to the East Providence City Council’s published meeting recording. The council took no votes on the budget. A council member said it was a workshop, one of several scheduled, and that no decisions would be made.

What it means for taxpayers

DaSilva said the administration is proposing a 3.5% increase in the tax levy, the total amount the city raises from property taxes, which he said equals about $127.2 million. The city’s finance director said that, based on current estimates and new growth, residents’ bills would rise by about 2.5%. The finance director said that would move the tax rate from 13.35 to 13.68, assuming no changes in the estimates.

The tax rate will not be set at the end of this budget process. A city official said assessed values are as of Dec. 31 and businesses self-report through March 15, 2027, so the figures are the best estimate available now…
