Hugs and tears and love for Syracuse mailman delivering his last letter

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A Syracuse neighborhood turned out in the middle of the day Wednesday for one last delivery, gathering with signs, family and even dogs outside to say goodbye to longtime mail carrier Dave Hamilton as he retired after 41 years.

Hamilton arrived at his final stop on Brattle Road to find a crowd waiting. His wife was there for the sendoff. Asked if she was always aware she shared her husband with so many women on his route, she said, “Yes I did. I definitely did. Its ok. I said they can borrow him at any time!”

Hamilton has been delivering mail in Syracuse for 41 years, dating back to the mid-1980s, when the price of a stamp was 22 cents…
