PRIDE, La. (WAFB) – Drivers in Pride say overgrown roadside ditches along Jackson Road are creating hazardous blind spots, while parish leaders say routine ditch mowing is not solely the parish’s responsibility.
Residents describe safety concerns
Brush has grown into ditches in some spots along Jackson Road and other nearby roads. With deer season starting Thursday (Oct. 1) and rain in the forecast, neighbors said navigating the road’s curves has become unpredictable.
“If a deer was right there, I would never know… [If] we’re coming around this curve, a deer pops out, and then boom, you know, I’m having to pay my $500 deductible to have my vehicle fixed because a deer hit my car,” said Tanya Fehr.
Fehr and other neighbors said that when they called for help, they were told parish mowers and tractors were broken down.
Parish responds
City-parish leaders in East Baton Rouge Parish said that is not true. Maintenance Director Reginald Brumfield said the parish’s equipment works and said that by law, adjacent homeowners are responsible for routine ditch mowing…
