The fight to free a convicted killer, attorneys claim he’s innocent and wrongfully convicted

ACADIA PARISH, La. (KLFY) — A New Iberia man in Angola Prison who is serving a life sentence for double murder could soon be a free man.

Daniel Prince was convicted of the 2005 murders of two Acadia Parish women and setting the mobile home on fire in an attempt to cover up his crimes. However, Innocence and Justice Louisiana believe he is wrongfully convicted. Recently, Prince got his day in court, as his team tried to prove it.

Prince sat in the very same Acadia Parish courtroom where he was convicted in 2013, but this time, a group of attorneys were trying to prove his innocence. Meanwhile, prosecutors for the state are trying to keep Prince locked up, saying they’re confident he is the killer.

The daughter of one of the victims sat across the courtroom from Prince, who was shackled and chained, every day of Prince’s post-conviction relief hearing. After the hearing, she was ready to speak publicly for the first time after spending 20 years paralyzed by fear…
