An Arizona restaurant concept has closed its doors just months after undergoing a major transformation. The Tucson closure marks a surprisingly short run for the newly launched concept, although the family behind the restaurant is continuing to operate three other locations.
Seis Cantina closes in Tucson
Seis Cantina has permanently closed its location at Joesler Village, 1765 E. River Road, in Tucson. The Muñoz family, which owns the Seis brand, announced the closure on September 24, roughly three months after the location was rebranded from Seis Kitchen to Seis Cantina.
The restaurant’s final concept was designed as a quick-service cantina inspired by the family’s food truck roots. The menu focused on Sonoran-style tacos, burros, nachos, fresh salsas, beer, and margaritas. The family had launched the concept in June as a way to create a more casual and streamlined dining experience.
The rebrand lasted about 90 days
The Joesler Village location had served the area as Seis Kitchen for nearly nine years before the June rebrand. At the time, the family said the larger, more labor-intensive restaurant model was no longer the best fit for the neighborhood and that the new cantina concept was intended to provide a faster, more affordable experience.
The experiment ultimately lasted only about 90 days. In its closure announcement, the Muñoz family described the decision as difficult and thanked regular customers for supporting the restaurant.
Three Seis locations remain open
The closure does not mean the end of the Seis brand in Tucson. Three Seis Kitchen locations remain open: Mercado San Agustín, Oro Valley, and Tanque Verde Road…
