Westside Faces Prolonged Heat as Coastal Temperatures Stay Elevated

LOS ANGELES – A major heat wave arriving Friday could keep Los Angeles County’s coastal communities hotter than normal well into next week, with forecasters warning that light offshore flow may delay the cooling effect of an unusually warm ocean.

The National Weather Service issued an extreme heat watch from Friday morning through Thursday evening for coastal and valley areas of Los Angeles County south of Point Conception. Temperatures are expected to peak Saturday, then remain 10 to 15 degrees above normal from Sunday into next week and possibly into the second week of October.
