Meridian Township begins 16th annual deer management program

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)— Meridian Township began its 16th annual Deer Management Program today, coinciding with the opening day of Michigan’s archery season. The program is combined with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, manages the local deer herd and improves public safety.

The program operates on 42 township-owned properties and 27 approved private properties through Jan. 1.

Venison harvested during the program is donated to 14 local food banks to assist families across the community. Meridian Township reports the 2025-2026 season, hunters donated 5,482 pounds of venison. Since 2020, the program has provided more than 40,000 pounds of venison to local families in need…
