Classic cars bring students, enthusiasts together at Penta show

Jay Jeffries of Northwood has been fixing cars since he started to help his father, a car mechanic, at about age 10.

When he was 16, Mr. Jeffries bought a 1940 Ford sedan, his first fixer-upper, and has since restored at least six vehicles, including a cinnamon-colored 1963 Chevy C10 pickup truck.

“That’s the last one,” the retired United Steelworkers business agent said. “I’m 78 years old, and I don’t know how much longer I’m going to keep climbing underneath cars. But I’m absolutely proud of this one — 90 percent of the shows it goes to, it wins something.”…
