ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) β North Carolina counties are taking on a larger share of the cost of administering SNAP beginning Oct. 1, a change expected to cost local governments millions of dollars more this fiscal year.
The change taking effect does not reduce the amount of SNAP benefits recipients receive. Instead, it changes how the administrative costs of providing those benefits are divided between the federal government and counties.
