Asheville GreenWorks is seeking a new home for its Sandhill Native Tree Nursery ahead of a move from Buncombe County Sports Park. The nonprofit says its county lease will not be renewed in 2028 because of plans for a multi-use recreation facility at the site.
The search centers on roughly two to five acres in the Asheville area, with flat terrain and access suitable for nursery operations. GreenWorks is seeking either donated property or a long-term lease to establish its next location.
The move comes as demand on the nursery has grown following Hurricane Helene. GreenWorks says its tree-planting efforts have increased tenfold since the storm, pushing the existing space beyond its capacity as the organization works to restore trees across Western North Carolina…
