Local providers highlight Kern County doctor shortage

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Kern County’s shortage of primary care doctors is leaving many patients with fewer options for routine and preventive health care, local providers say, and it can make managing chronic conditions more difficult.

Kern Medical said the county has 47 primary care physicians for every 100,000 people. Statewide, that number ranges from about 60 to 80.
