Passenger Recounts Harrowing Experience on Flydubai Flight After Mid-Air Pilot Incident
Almog Italie, a 52-year-old digital marketing professional from Ness Ziona, Israel, shared a firsthand account of a terrifying episode aboard Flydubai flight FZ1073 on September 30. Returning with his family from a two-week vacation in Japan, their journey home took an unexpected and alarming turn.
The flight, which included a stopover in Dubai and was scheduled to land in Tel Aviv, encountered sudden and rapid descent near the Jordanian border. Italie described the experience as akin to a roller coaster, with the plane dropping sharply and causing significant distress among passengers.
Initially mistaking the rapid descent for turbulence, the passengers soon realized the situation was far more serious. Italie observed that no safety masks deployed, suggesting cabin pressure remained stable.
However, the real cause of the disturbance emerged when crew members informed passengers that one pilot had stabbed the other in the cockpit. According to Italie, a small group of passengers intervened to help regain control of the aircraft as the remaining pilot sought an emergency landing site.
Throughout the ordeal, Italie and his family focused on staying calm and buckling up, understanding that composure was critical to their safety. The plane eventually ascended again, subjecting them to intense forces, before being diverted to Saudi Arabia where they received medical attention and support from local authorities.
“It was a relief to land safely,” Italie reflected. “The response from the ground team was very reassuring-they took care of medical needs, food, and everything necessary.”
He noted that the injured pilot was taken to the hospital and that they awaited a replacement flight for several hours before continuing their journey home. Despite the trauma, Italie emphasized that the experience would not deter his passion for travel.
“I’m a traveler at heart and won’t let a rare event like this stop me,” he said. He also praised the passengers’ collective calm during the crisis, stressing that following instructions and remaining seated were vital.
Flydubai has issued a statement affirming their commitment to cooperating with the ongoing investigation and upholding the highest safety standards.
