State commission examines UVA’s role in displacing Black neighborhoods

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – A Virginia state commission met Thursday night at the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center to document how the expansion of public colleges and universities displaced historically Black communities.

The commission is examining the role land acquisition and campus growth played across the commonwealth, focusing in Charlottesville on the footprint of the University of Virginia.
