Friday & the weekend: Turning more unsettled as a front drops southward

A southward-moving cold front will bring about a bout of unsettled weather this weekend that’ll linger into next week with high pressure building back in from the northeast.

First, though, we’ve got a foggy start to the day ahead, much like we saw on Thursday morning. Visibility should drop to a quarter mile or less across much of the metro area, with fog spreading toward the coast before dissipating by mid-morning. A Dense Fog Advisory will be in effect from 3-9am as a result. Please use plenty of following distance tomorrow morning, and make sure your low beams are turned on so others can see you. We don’t want a pileup here like we saw on 95 this morning!

From there, temperatures will head well above normal for early October, with temperatures approaching 90° in the afternoon. A few showers could break out along the seabreeze in the afternoon, especially with improving moisture, but whatever forms won’t stick around long with a mid-level ridge still firmly entrenched atop the area.

As we head into Saturday, we start to see a front begin to push into the area from the north. The high pressure system aloft begins to weaken, and plenty of moisture will continue to surge into the area, which should help ignite showers and some thunderstorms perhaps by mid-morning. Rain shouldn’t be a constant, thankfully, but you’ll want backup plans for anything outdoors. Rain continues into Sunday, with the bulk of it falling in the afternoon into the evening. Temperatures will remain above normal, with mid-80s Saturday and low 80s Sunday…
