AUSTIN (KXAN) — A Venezuelan man shot by federal immigration agents in north Austin last month has undergone surgery and had the bullet successfully removed from him, according to an update shared from his wife with the Texas Civil Rights Project.

Wilber Rafael Garces Perez is recovering and has been returned to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service, according to TCRP. The organization, which confirmed the update with KXAN, is part of the legal team representing Garces Perez in his habeas petition.
Garces Perez, 28, was shot by federal immigration agents while working as a food delivery driver in north Austin.
