LAFAYETTE, La. (Acadiana News First) – A University of Louisiana System Board of Regents member suggested UL, Louisiana Tech, and the University of Louisiana at Monroe could drop from Division I to Division I-AA to help address multimillion-dollar athletic deficits, though he later described the comment as off-the-cuff.
Board member Wilbert Pryor raised the idea during the system board’s most recent meeting as members examined athletic deficits across UL System schools. Every school in the system carries an athletic deficit except for Nicholls State University.
“Lafayette, I mean, that’s $20 million athletic debt, I think, by my math,” Pryor said. “And then Tech, $17 million, and ULM, $10 million.”…
