Halawakee Creek sewage leak in Lee County leaves residents filing complaints

LEE COUNTY, Ala. (WRBL) — Multiple complaints have been filed by residents near the Halawakee Creek pertaining to sewage, trash and dead fish being found in the creek.

Thursday, the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper organization staff walked through the Halawakee Creek and discovered a serious sewage leak.

“25 minutes at this point, following the creek. And we’ve come to an area where you can see there’s signs, some sort of sewer overflow. You’ve got toilet paper, wet wipes. We can see that this one is overflowing. Has been for quite some time,” said a member of the Chattahoochee Riverkeepers…
