Court denies appeal from man convicted in Greenville County couple’s killing

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The man convicted of killing an elderly Greenville County couple will continue to serve his sentence after courts denied his appeal.

The case dates back to 2012, when Gary and Helen Wells were found dead inside their home on Terramont Drive. They had been stabbed, and Helen Wells was also shot.

The couple’s former housekeeper found their bodies.

Conviction and relationship to housekeeper

Jonathan Rhodes was convicted of killing the couple in 2015. He was in a relationship with the former housekeeper, who had recently argued with the couple over money. The housekeeper was never charged.

Appeal hearing

In a hearing in February, Rhodes challenged parts of his original trial. His attorney argued there was nothing that put him at the scene other than circumstantial evidence. The state said DNA and phone evidence links him to the crime…
