Old boat near Calabash being turned into artificial reef off Little River coast

LITTLE RIVER, SC (WMBF) – An old boat sitting in Calabash is being used to give back to sea life off the coast of Little River.

The “Miss Sandra Gail” has been abandoned and left to rot for more than two years. A team with Hurricane Fleet in Calabash has spent weeks salvaging and cleaning the vessel before it is sunk off the Grand Strand coast.

Once the vessel is underwater, hard and soft corals will slowly grow across its steel frame, turning the rusted-out boat into a reef.
