NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Grammy award-winning rapper and Portsmouth-native Missy Elliott is set to host an HBCU Battle of the Bands at Norfolk State University.
The band battle is set to take place at 4 p.m. on October 18 at the William “Dick Price” Stadium. This battle will feature the Norfolk State University Marching Spartan “Legion” Band, along with other HBCU bands including the Hampton University “Marching Force”, Elizabeth City State University “Sound of Class” and the Virginia State University “Trojan Explosion”.
This event is in celebration of Missy Elliot Day, which was established by former Governor Glenn Youngkin in 2022 during a street-naming ceremony honoring Elliott andher contributions to music and the world.
