Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin announces $32 to $80 million settlement over PCB environmental contamination claims

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin said the state has reached a settlement of at least $32 million and up to $80 million with three companies over PCBs causing environmental contamination.

Griffin said the settlement was with Monsanto Company, Solutia, Inc. and Pharmacia LLC.

“I am pleased that this case is resolved and that Monsanto is doing right by Arkansans,” Griffin said. “Although the company stopped manufacturing PCBs in the late 1970s, before the federal government banned them in 1979, Monsanto’s PCBs had been in circulation for nearly half a century.”…
