A 37-year-old man accused of using a pry bar to kill his 74-year-old father last month at their home in south Lubbock was out on bond for an unrelated case in which he is accused of beating and strangling his father two years ago, court records show.
Justo Mendez Jr. remains held at the Lubbock County Detention Center. He faces a first-degree felony count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury to a family member.
The offense carries a punishment of five years to life in prison.
