FBI creates Northshore task force to address concerns of ‘gang violence and drug activity’

The FBI deputized 38 law-enforcement officers Thursday into a new Northshore Gang Task Force, a move the agency says is the “latest step taken to address gang violence and drug activity.”

Several local and state leaders attended the swearing in at the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office Training Center in Slidell, including Gov. Jeff Landry, Louisiana State Police Superintendent Frank Besson, St. Tammany District Attorney Collin Sims and other town sheriffs and police chiefs from St. Tammany, Washington and Tangipahoa parishes.

The task force will work in conjunction with the one already in place on the south shore. According to FBI New Orleans Special Agent Jonathan Tapp on Friday, the reason is to “attack the problem, before it gets bad.”…
