Eugene launches wheelchair-accessible taxi service

EUGENE, Ore. – A new wheelchair accessible taxi pilot program launched Oct. 1 to provide round-the-clock transportation for people who use wheelchairs, filling a gap in Eugene’s current taxi and rideshare services.

The City of Eugene program allows anyone using a wheelchair or power chair to call or use a smartphone app to book an accessible taxi for rides within Eugene at any time. Riders pay a standard fare, and the city subsidizes that fare through a monthly flat-rate payment to the contracted service provider.

The service operates within Eugene’s urban growth boundary and to and from the airport. Taxis can accommodate up to two wheelchair users, service dogs and up to three other people…
