Eugene crash leads to DUII arrest with child in the car

EUGENE, Ore. – A 61-year-old woman was arrested for driving under the influence with her 8-year-old grandchild in the car after a crash Thursday evening, according to the Eugene Police Department.

EPD officials said they were called to Barger Drive and North Terry Street at 7:09 p.m. on Oct. 1 for a crash. A driver reported being rear-ended by a Subaru driven by Tarry Marye Kruit of Eugene. Kruit and the other driver got out to exchange information, but Kruit failed to put her car in park and nearly hit the other driver’s car a second time. When officers arrived, they believed Kruit was under the influence, police said. Kruit denied being involved in a crash but admitted to drinking alcohol. An 8-year-old child was in the car with her.

Officers gave Kruit field sobriety tests, but she refused to take a breath test. Police applied for and received a search warrant for a blood draw, but Kruit was not cooperative and had to be held down for the draw to be conducted…
