Campus construction continues into new school year

If you’re new to the University of Oregon campus, you may be wondering what all this construction is about. If you’re a returning student, you may be wondering what all this construction is still doing here.

Multiple construction projects are in progress as the new year begins, with many expected to drag out for the entirety of the 2026-27 academic year. Those projects include new student housing buildings and the Friendly Hall restoration.

Next generation housing plan

As part of UO’s Next Generation Housing Development Plan, a new residence hall, recently named Maple Hall, is expected to be completed and open fall 2027. The seven-story building will cost an estimated $160 million and include 870 beds, with each room having an attached bathroom.

Michael Harwood, university architect, said Maple Hall will have three new dining venues, which are “Hatch,” “Oh, Biscuits” and “Wok ‘n’ Waddle.” He said they are hoping to help students commune over food and build a strong community around these venues…
