Evansville man accused of driving 94 mph on Lloyd while drunk

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — An Evansville man has been arrested after police say he was driving at an unreasonably high speed while drunk on the Lloyd Expressway.

Police say Joshua Alan Kirwer, 33, was arrested on the following charges:

  • Operating while intoxicated
  • Operating while intoxicated – endangerment
  • Reckless driving at an unreasonable high speed
  • Driving while suspended – prior
  • Operating without financial responsibility – prior

According to Evansville Police, and officer was stopped at a red light at St. Joseph Avenue around 8:40 p.m. on Friday when a car passed the officer in the westbound lane at a high rate of speed. The officer said he clocked the driver at 94 mph as it passed him and another car.

Police say the driver sped through the 2600 block of the West Lloyd Expressway, an active construction zone with a 40-mph speed limit. The officer was able to catch up to the suspect’s vehicle at the 4800 block of the West Lloyd Expressway, between Rosenberger Avenue and Red Bank Road, and perform a traffic stop…
