As of mid-September 2026, I know the appeal of putting a pot on the stove when lead in tap water worries me. I have treated boiling as the reassuring step in my own house in Port St. Lucie. Here in Florida, you and I can make the same mistake: doing something familiar with the water feels better than waiting to learn what is in it.

That feeling is the trouble. The question is whether lead is present in the water you drink. A pot on the stove gives you no answer to that question, even if it gives you a task you know how to do. I would rather separate the question from the reflex before deciding what comes out of my tap.
