PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Doctors rallied outside Rhode Island Hospital Friday, urging executives to approve their first contract and prioritize frontline workers.
For nearly a year, 700 Rhode Island resident physicians and fellows represented by the Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR)/Service Employees International Union (SEIU) have been in contract negotiations.
Doctors reportedly rejected the latest offer on Tuesday because the proposed contract “didn’t adequately meet” their demands.
According to the union, many are in a state of chronic financial stress from working more than 80-hour weeks, but only earning “barely minimum hourly wages.”…
