TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Plans to bring increased passenger rail service to Toledo have been discussed for years, and this weekend, advocates are touting the advantages of rail. Putting Toledo into the mix for possible expansion is a focus, as well.
Passenger rail in and out of Toledo has been sparse. There is some money available to increase Toledo’s passenger rail options, but the plan has not been finalized, and it is not clear whether it will be.
Current service and proposed changes
At the downtown Toledo train station, passenger trains are few and far between. Pickup and drop-off currently happen at odd, overnight hours.
“You need to have frequency. You need to have good service where it’s reliable and you need to have cost that is affordable. You need to have times that people are going to take. The goal with this would be to have multiple trains a day during the daytime.
