Mass break-in at closed Ford City Mall renews calls for increased security

The city of Chicago is stepping up efforts to force the owners of the shuttered Ford City Mall to improve security at the 70-acre site as new video shows dozens of people participating in a mass break-in.

At a hearing set for Monday, Oct. 5, the City of Chicago Department of Law is expected to demand that the current owner, New York-based Namdar, create a full security plan for the property, including an increased physical security presence and limiting access to the parking lots.
