A Middlesex County grand jury has indicted 17-year-old Arjun Aravind on two counts of murder in the deaths of his mother and younger brother, whose bodies were found inside their Acton home in August. A not-guilty plea was entered on Aravind’s behalf on August 13, and he is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

Grand Jury Hands Up Formal Charges

The indictment, reported by WCVB, charges Aravind with two counts of murder, two counts of assault and battery on a family or household member, and two counts of assault and battery, in connection with the deaths of 45-year-old Sudha Venkatesan and 14-year-old Siddharth Aravind. The station reports that a prosecutor said there were obvious signs of a physical and violent struggle inside the Acton home, and that both victims showed signs of blunt-force trauma. A police report described a heavily damaged, bloody laptop found near a large blood stain, which investigators said was consistent with being used during the assault, along with a bent utensil, possibly a knife, with an orange handle.

Venkatesan was found dead inside the family’s Acton home, and Siddharth was found dead inside the residence as well, according to the same WCVB report. Officers had responded after a scheduled tutor could not enter the home on August 11, 2026, and Arjun’s father requested a well-being check. Per earlier reporting from CBS News, Venkatesan was last seen alive by her husband when he left for work around 7 a.m. that day, while Siddharth had been at a local recreation facility before returning home around noon; the father called police around 6:30 p.m. after failing to reach anyone inside.
