More than 200 years old, these 2 garments are mysteries in Grand Rapids’ largest closet

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – There’s a climate-controlled space holding more than 10,000 pieces of clothing, shoes and accessories in the heart of Grand Rapids.

The room holding these ensembles is located on the second floor of the Grand Rapids Public Museum Community Archives and Research Center on the city’s southeast side, a place staff affectionately call the region’s largest closet.

About 98% of the collection was donated by the community, everything from wedding dresses and old swimsuits to fur coats and military uniforms…
