A Seasonal Food Guide to Louisiana’s Cajun Bayou

Just south of New Orleans, Louisiana’s Cajun Bayou offers a food culture shaped by waterways, seafood, family recipes, festivals, and generations of Cajun tradition. Centered on Lafourche Parish and the communities along Bayou Lafourche, the region provides a very different culinary experience from Louisiana’s largest city.

Seafood is especially important here. Shrimp boats, crawfish boils, fresh fish, oysters, and seafood gumbo are closely tied to the local economy and how people gather. The area’s Cajun Bayou Food Trail brings many of these traditions together through restaurants, seafood markets, meat markets, festivals, and other culinary stops.

The trail was refreshed in 2026 and now includes 18 food stops across communities such as Des Allemands, Thibodaux, Raceland, Lockport, Larose, Cut Off, Galliano, and Golden Meadow.
