New details: Bull Fire was human-caused, officials say

(FOX40.COM) — A fire burning near the site of the Hawk Fire, which burned more than 15,000 acres and injured seven in August, is believed to be human-caused, officials announced Saturday.

The Bull Fire was reported west of Reno just after 10:45 a.m. Friday, according to the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District. The fire prompted evacuation orders and warnings for “backcountry areas” just past the California border in Nevada, the fire district said.

Roughly 250 firefighters battled flames overnight using helicopter water drops, hand crews and engines, along with other resources. According to fire officials, the Hawk Fire burn scar is a “natural containment feature” helping keep flames from spreading.

The Bull Fire is human-caused and is being investigated by the fire district. The fire is 40% contained and burning approximately 1,274 acres as of Saturday morning…
