GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Voting for ArtPrize may be closed, but the city is still very much alive. Artists and enthusiasts spent Saturday making their way through Grand Rapids to catch one final glimpse of the ArtPrize entries before the winners are revealed.
Hundreds made their way downtown enjoying the Merchants and Makers Market as part of ArtPrize. The Clay Carnival took over Rosa Parks circle with tons of stations where people could get creative. People got the chance to paint pottery, see demonstrations and many participated in raku pottery, a process that uses fire to create unique finishes.
For many, the event was about more than making something.
“It’s like a mini vacation to sit down at a table and get your hands within some pottery and clay and art,” said Kelly Kermode, the owner of Pottery Lane, which helped bring the clay carnival to life. “It’s wonderful to see all these people doing that… They are taking a moment out of their day just to sit and be creative. They’re focused and they are asking questions just getting into the moment of designing something that is personal and relatable to them or just having fun with it.”…
