Polk County Sheriff’s Office Honors Fallen Deputy Blane Lane On Anniversary Of Tragic Polk City Call

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – The Polk County Sheriff’s Office honored Deputy Blane Lane, marking the anniversary of the night the 21-year-old lost his life on duty.

The call came in the early morning hours of October 4, 2022. Just after 2 a.m., deputies showed up at a house on Foxtown South in Polk City after getting a tip that Cheryl Lynn Williams, who was wanted on a felony warrant, was inside.

Three deputies went through the front door. Lane stayed outside, taking up a watch position around the perimeter so Williams couldn’t slip out the back. Once the deputies got inside and confronted her, Williams drew a weapon on them—investigators later realized it was a BB gun…
