Cool air incoming: Here’s when South Texas temps fall to the 60s

September was scorching hot across South Texas. With an average high temperature of 97 degrees and an average low of 77 degrees, it was San Antonio’s hottest September on record. But as October began, a cold front and ample Pacific moisture forced a weather pattern shift, bringing cooler temps and some beneficial rainfall.

The weather pattern is set to continue changing over the next few days. But this time, much drier air will move into the region from the north, resulting in cooler, crisp fall mornings and noticeably lower humidity levels. Much of South Texas will fall into the 60s this week, with a few spots even expected to hit the 50s.

Sunday’s forecast

Sunday will start with comfortable weather across South Texas, with temperatures expected to hover in the low 70s under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Winds will be quite breezy, moving in from the north at 15 to 20 mph with some gusts up to 30 mph possible.

A few isolated showers are also possible through the first half of the day on Sunday, but overall rain chances will be at just 20%. If you do encounter a shower, rainfall is expected to stay very light.

Temperatures will only rise slowly into the afternoon, likely still in the mid- to upper 70s at noon. 2 p.m. High temperatures are expected to reach around 79 to 80 degrees, which is well below average for the first week of October. A nice evening is expected, as well, with temperatures hovering in the mid- to upper 70s.

When will lows temps hit the 60s?

Significantly drier air will start to filter into South-Central Texas on Monday, resulting in more sunshine across the region. Highs will be warm, in the mid-80s, but the dry air will force temperatures to fall fast at night. San Antonio will likely reach a low temp near 67 degrees during the predawn hours on Tuesday morning — the city’s first time under 70 degrees since late May.

The dry air is expected to stick around through the middle of the week. From Tuesday through Thursday, San Antonio can expect warm afternoons with highs between 86 and 88 degrees. But be sure to get outside during the early morning hours, as overnight low temps will likely sit between 65 and 68 degrees each day…
