Derby movie theater set for foreclosure auction, owners say they intend to stay

A family-owned movie theater in Derby could be sold at a foreclosure auction this month due to more than $100,000 in unpaid property taxes, according to Sedgwick County records. But the theater says they intend to retain ownership of the facility.

“We have every intention on paying so we don’t go to auction and we can keep it going,” Beth Wilson, the theater’s general manager, told The Eagle via email.

Derby Plaza Theaters, 1300 N. Nelson Drive, is the south Wichita suburb’s only theater. Sedgwick County documents show the business owes $121,661.53 in property taxes that were due between 2021 and 2024…
