HIT-AND-RUN: 1 dead after motorcycle hits pedestrian in downtown Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)— A pedestrian was hit and killed by a motorcycle that left the scene along Lafayette St. in downtown Fort Wayne Sunday night.

According to Fort Wayne dispatch, the call for the crash at the intersection of E. Wayne St. and Lafayette came in around 7:50 p.m. Police on the scene confirmed that the man who died was the only person who was hit. The first officers who arrived gave the man CPR and attempted to secure a tourniquet on him, according to FWPD public information officer Sgt. John Nichter. The man was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Northbound Lafayette St. is closed from E. Washington Blvd. to E. Wayne St. Yellow tape blocks the entire road between those two streets, and debris lies in the roadway.

Police said witnesses told them they saw a motorcycle with two people on it crash into the man. Police hope the debris at the scene and surveillance footage from local businesses will help identify the two motorcyclists…
