UW Tacoma OK’s $375K payout after former assistant professor sues

A former University of Washington Tacoma assistant professor has reached a $375,000 settlement with his ex-employer after accusing the school of not accommodating his mental health disability and other disputed claims, court records show.

Jarek Sierschynski sued UW Tacoma in 2024, also alleging that the university ran afoul of faculty code in handling the process for his tenure, which he was denied, and that he was wrongfully terminated because he advocated for Black co-workers and other protected class members.

In February, Pierce County Superior Court Judge Philip K. Sorensen dismissed three of Sierschynski’s four claims: breach of contract, retaliation in violation of public policy and violation of family and medical leave, according to court records.
