Man sentenced for stealing phone from Walmart employee, assaulting officer in Akron

AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) – Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich announced Monday that an Akron man was sentenced last Friday for two investigations in 2025 and 2026.

According to the release, Jermaine Turner, 38, was sentenced 14 to 19.5 years in prison for 2025 and 2026 investigations.

In September, a jury found him guilty of the following charges for the 2025 incident:

  • Tampering with evidence, one count
  • Misdemeanor theft, one count
  • Obstructing official business, one count

For the 2026 incident, the prosecutor’s office said he was found guilty of one count of felonious assault.
