Medina Square was filled with the sights, smells and sounds of Scouting on Sunday as eight Scout troops and Cub Scout packs from the Medina and Brunswick areas gathered for the third annual Great Outdoor Cooking Expo, sponsored by Scouting America.
Held Oct. 4 from noon to 3 p.m., the free event drew a steady stream of visitors who came to sample an impressive variety of foods prepared by Scouts with adult supervision. Using outdoor cooking techniques and equipment such as Dutch ovens and convection ovens, the Scouts prepared everything from chicken curry, beef stew, chili and Asian rice to Canadian stuffed potatoes, corn chowder, chicken enchiladas and breakfast casserole.
Desserts were equally impressive, including brownies, fruit cobblers and a crowd favorite — deep-fried Oreos. Visitors also enjoyed homemade cornbread served with freshly churned butter…
