Police say armed security guard prompted police response at Warwick Mall

WARWICK, R.I. (WJAR) — A report of a man wearing tactical-style gear and openly carrying a firearm prompted a large police response at Warwick Mall Monday afternoon, but police later determined the man was an armed security guard conducting legitimate business at the mall.

Warwick police said they received a 911 call reporting that the man had entered the mall near Target.

Because of the nature of the call and the size of the shopping center, multiple officers responded and police warned the public to stay away from the area while they investigated.
