AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — According to the Amarillo Police Department, kratom is a legal synthetic drug that is sold in most vape smoke shops in the Amarillo area. You must be 21 to purchase.
It comes in pills, liquid, and powder. Kratom is a tropical plant-based substance from Southeast Asia that acts as a stimulant in low doses and mimics opioid effects in high doses.
“It was brought over to the United States as a herbal supplement. It’s more of a kind of an energy-focused type of supplement that people would take. We have found out that most of these are, the kratom is either in pill form, it’s in a powder, or it’s in liquid form; it can be mixed.
