What started as a typical trip home from school quickly turned into a frightening experience for 9-year-old Heartland Powell.

Meridian police warn drivers to stay alert after young girl gets hit in cross walk
Last month, Heartland and her older sister were riding their scooters home when they attempted to cross Pine Avenue at 3rd Street in Meridian. Heartland said she was nearly across the street when a truck struck her and ran over her leg.
“I was crossing and my sister finished crossing and then the guy came out of nowhere,” Heartland said. “I was about to be done crossing and he hit me and then he ran over my leg.”…
