Former American Idol contestant Caleb Flynn broke down in tears as victim impact statements from his young daughters were read aloud in court.

Flynn, 40, who appeared on the singing competition in 2013, was recently convicted of murdering his wife, Ashley Flynn, 37, and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The former music pastor from Ohio was visibly emotional while listening to his 10- and 12-year-old daughters’ heartfelt and painful statements condemning his actions. These statements were delivered by Ashley’s brother-in-law in the courtroom.

The sentencing came after Caleb gave a brief five-word statement and following the court’s review of thousands of text messages exchanged between him and his mistress, Alleigha Botner. These messages revealed their involvement and discussed their desire to kill Ashley.

On October 5, the daughters’ letters were read aloud, pleading with their father to finally admit his guilt. They questioned why he chose to have an affair and take the life of their mother, leaving them without a parent.

Caleb was found guilty of shooting Ashley on February 16, 2026. He then staged the crime scene to make it appear as though an intruder had broken in through the garage, claiming he and the children were asleep during the incident.

One letter from the younger daughter read, “Dear Daddy, I don’t even know where to start. How could you do such a thing?

Mommy was the perfect person… And then you chose to kill the only mother I ever had.”

The older daughter’s letter included a direct plea for her father to admit the murder. “You made me feel like an idiot thinking I could trust you,” she wrote. She expressed that despite her faith in God, she would never visit Caleb in prison after he took their mother away and continued to deny his guilt despite overwhelming evidence.

“How could you do such a thing? Mommy was the perfect person.

The absolute perfect person. What did she ever do to make you hate her so much?

She was my best friend. And then you chose to kill the only mother I ever had.

I miss her so much,” the letter read.

The younger daughter also addressed Caleb’s affair, calling Alleigha “that awful girl” and expressing her dislike for her. During the trial, texts between Caleb and Alleigha revealed a disturbing plan to kill Ashley, along with AI-generated love songs Caleb sent to his mistress.

The daughters contrasted their mother’s kindness with Alleigha’s influence, describing Ashley as “the perfect woman” and calling Alleigha a “dirty girl.” One daughter lamented, “Ashley Flynn was the best thing that ever happened to you. You had the best life ever, and you decided to throw it away for a girl who was half your age.”

The youngest daughter’s statement ended with a powerful message: “Did you really even think about how much pain you would bring your own two daughters?” As Caleb sobbed in the courtroom, the letter concluded, “I wish that you could come to understand that actions have consequences and you have a lot to pay. The least you could do is tell everyone you did it and receive your outcome.”

Caleb Flynn was convicted of aggravated murder, multiple counts of murder, felonious assault, and tampering with evidence. Despite the verdict, Caleb maintained his innocence during sentencing, stating, “While I did lie about a lot of things, I am not lying. I did not kill my wife.”
