Las Palmas, Del Sol workers seek higher pay as contract talks continue

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Employees from Las Palmas Medical Center and Del Sol Medical Center called for higher wages and raised concerns about staffing and reduced hours during a news conference outside the El Paso County Courthouse on Monday, Oct. 5.

The workers are represented by the Service Employees International Union, or SEIU. The union says some employees make as little as $13.50 an hour.

Angelina Gomez, an environmental services worker at Del Sol, told KTSM 9 News she earns less than $15 an hour. She said staffing shortages mean she has to clean patient rooms and cover other areas…
