Arkansas timber industry in crisis as fuel costs soar; relief eyed in dyed diesel order

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) — The timber industry has been vital in Arkansas, contributing more than $7 billion to the state’s GDP. But today, that industry is struggling.

There are about 19 million acres of forestland in Arkansas, that’s more than half of the state. Forestry contributes over 4% of the state’s economy, but now, this family-rooted industry is in crisis. It all has to do with gas prices.
