Woman who attacked ICE officer, trooper during traffic stop asks federal judge for lighter sentence ahead of hearing

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville woman convicted of attacking law enforcement officers during a January traffic stop is asking a federal judge for a lighter sentence before she appears in court next week.

Jennifer Cruz, 41, is set to be sentenced Oct. 14 in federal court after pleading guilty in June to a charge stemming from an encounter with Florida Highway Patrol troopers and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers on Beach Boulevard.

Before the hearing, her defense attorney filed a sentencing memorandum — a standard filing in federal cases — arguing for a reduced sentence.
